Proof of concept: Screening for REM sleep behaviour disorder with a minimal set of sensors

چکیده

Rapid-Eye-Movement (REM) sleep behaviour disorder (RBD) is an early predictor of Parkinson’s disease, dementia with Lewy bodies, and multiple system atrophy. This study investigated the use a minimal set sensors to achieve effective screening for RBD in population, integrating automated staging (three state) followed by detection without need cumbersome electroencephalogram (EEG) sensors. Polysomnography signals from 50 participants age-matched healthy controls were used evaluate this study. Three stage classification was achieved using random forest classifier features derived combination cost-effective easy sensors, namely electrocardiogram (ECG), electrooculogram (EOG), electromyogram (EMG) channels. Subsequently, established new metrics ECG EMG The EOG provided optimal minimalist fully-automated performance, achieving 0.57 ± 0.19 kappa (3 stage) accuracy 0.90 0.11, (sensitivity specificity 0.88 0.13 0.92 0.098, respectively). A single sensor three state 0.28 0.06 0.62 0.10. demonstrates feasibility detect techniques. proposes cost-effective, practical, simple identification support tool only two (EMG EOG); ideal purposes.

Screening Methods for REM Sleep Behavior Disorder

REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) is a parasomnia characterized by dream-enacting behavior and vivid, action-filled or unpleasant dreams and presents a risk for self-injury and harm to others (e.g., a bed partner) due to abnormal REM sleep during which control of muscle tonus is lacking. Polysomnography is required to establish the diagnosis and represents the diagnostic gold standard for revea...

REM sleep behaviour disorder: an overview.

REM sleep behaviour disorder (RSBD) is a recently described parasomnia characterised by a history of excessive nocturnal motor activity and absence of muscle atonia during REM sleep. Only limited literature is available on this condition. The exact prevalence is unclear, but recent studies suggest it might not be an uncommon condition. The elderly are more often affected and there is a male pre...

Screening tools for clinical characteristics of probable REM sleep behavior disorder in patients with Parkinson's disease

Introduction The REM sleep behavior disorder (RBD) screening questionnaire (RBDSQ) has been used as a screening tool for RBD. We investigated the clinical characteristics of probable RBD (pRBD) using the RBDSQ in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Methods Seventy patients with PD (age: 69.2 ± 8.9 years old, 31 males and 49 females, length of PD morbidity: 7.4 ± 6.4 years, Hoehn and Yahr:...

MAPT association with REM sleep behavior disorder

Idiopathic REM sleep behavior disorder (IRBD) is a REM sleep parasomnia comprising unpleasant dreams, dream-enacting behaviors, and loss of muscle atonia during REM sleep. Longitudinal studies have demonstrated that because most patients with IRBD develop with time Parkinson disease (PD) and other synucleinopathies including dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB) or multiple system atrophy (MSA), IRBD...
