Polish groups with metrizable universal minimal flows
We prove that if the universalminimal flow of a Polish groupG ismetrizable and contains a Gδ orbit G · x0, then it is isomorphic to the completion of the homogeneous space G/Gx0 and show how this result translates naturally in terms of structural Ramsey theory. We also investigate universal minimal proximal flows and describe concrete representations of them in a number of examples.
متن کاملUniversal Borel Actions of Countable Groups
If the countable group G has a nonabelian free subgroup, then there exists a standard Borel G-space such that the corresponding orbit equivalence relation is countable universal. In this paper, we will consider the question of whether the converse also holds.
متن کاملMetrizable Tap and Stap Groups
In a recent paper by D. Shakhmatov and J. Spěvák [Group-valued continuous functions with the topology of pointwise convergence, Topology and its Applications (2009), doi:10.1016/j.topol.2009.06.022] the concept of a TAP group is introduced and it is shown in particular that the NSS groups are TAP. We prove that conversely, the Weil complete metrizable TAP groups are NSS. We define also the narr...
متن کاملIrreducible representations of metrizable spaces and strongly countable-dimensional spaces
We generalize Freudenthal’s theory of irreducible representations of metrizable compacta by inverse sequences of compact polyhedra to the class of all metrizable spaces. Our representations consist of inverse sequences of completely metrizable polyhedra which are ANR’s. They are extendable: any such representation of a closed subspace of a given metrizable space extends to another such of the e...
متن کاملCountable Compact Hausdorff Spaces Need Not Be Metrizable in Zf
We show that the existence of a countable, first countable, zerodimensional, compact Hausdorff space which is not second countable, hence not metrizable, is consistent with ZF. 1. Notation and terminology Definition 1.1. Let (X,T ) be a topological space and B a base for T . (i) X is said to be compact if every open cover U of X has a finite subcover V . X is said to be compact with respect to ...
