Projected Changes of Surface Winds Over the Antarctic Continental Margin
نویسندگان
چکیده
Surface winds around the Antarctic continent control coupled ocean-ice processes that influence climate system, including bottom water production, heat transport onto continental shelf and sea ice coverage. However, few studies have examined projected changes in these winds, even though it would aid interpretation understanding of ocean's response to change. Using Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 6 reanalysis data, we show a significant reduction near-Antarctic surface throughout historical period continues until end twenty-first century, amounting 23% 7% for easterly southerly wind components respectively under high emission scenario. The most intense weakening happens during summer season. We find is coherent with trend toward positive Southern Annular Mode pole-to-coast meridional pressure gradient, which term Index.

Cross–Shelf Exchange Along the Antarctic Continental Margin: Modeling Results
The shelf areas around the Antarctic Continent are locations of dense water formation; part of these water masses ventilate the adjacent deep ocean basins and enter the global thermohaline circulation. This paper takes a look at regional differences of shelf sea–deep ocean exchange in high southern latitudes (mainly between the Weddell and Ross Seas), highlights a few physical mechanisms potent...
متن کاملSignificance of the Trace Fossil Zoophycos in Pliocene Deposits, Antarctic Continental Margin (ANDRILL 1B Drill Core)
Zoophycos is a complex three dimensional trace fossil that is abundant in deep ocean sediments worldwide, but has not been described previously from Cenozoic continental margin deposits of Antarctica. In the ANDRILL 1B core drilled through the northwest McMurdo ice shelf, Zoophycos occurs in a 17m thick unit of interglacial sediments bounded above and below by glacial surfaces of erosion. This ...
متن کاملProjected Changes in the Seasonal Cycle of Surface Temperature
When forced with increasing greenhouse gases, global climate models project a delay in the phase and a reduction in the amplitude of the seasonal cycle of surface temperature, expressed as later minimum and maximum annual temperatures and greater warming in winter than in summer. Most of the global mean changes come from the high latitudes, especially over the ocean. All 24 Coupled Model Interc...
متن کاملReport of a Physical Oceanography Research Project over the Southern Continental Shelf of the Caspian Sea
Abstract The study presents monthly variations of seawater properties, monitoring water column stability and stratification over the southern shelf of the Caspian Sea which depends on collecting data. Field measurements were carried out during 13 cruises along the southern boundary of the sea. Spatial and temporal distributions of temperature, salinity and density were investigated. Monthl...
متن کاملVariation of radon progeny concentration over a continental location
Background: The variation of the radon progeny concentration in outdoor environment and meteorological parameters at fine resolution were studied for one year at a continental location, National Atmospheric Research Laboratory, Gadanki, India. Materials and Methods: The concentrations were measured using Alpha Progeny Meter by collecting air samples at a height of 1 m above the Earth&rsqu...
