Projected Changes in Extreme Wet and Dry Conditions in Greece

چکیده
Earth’s changing climate may have different effects around the planet. Regional changes in temperature and precipitation extremes are associated with damaging natural hazards. Decreases expected to occur some places at mid-latitudes, for instance Mediterranean, which has been classified as a change hotspot. Droughts among most hazards severe consequences socio-economic sectors, environment, living beings. In contrast, extreme heavy events become more frequent. This study aims project assess drought variability across Greece. A better knowledge of potential under is vital managing risks impacts dry conditions. The spatiotemporal characteristics Greece investigated using indices such consecutive wet/dry days, total wet-day precipitation, fraction rainfall, maximum daily days. standardized index evapotranspiration also calculated seasonal dryness variability. analysis performed sub-set high-resolution simulations from EURO-CORDEX, two representative concentration pathway scenarios. results show that region subject future Total annual found decrease country, western southern parts tending be vulnerable areas. estimated by 5–20% 5–25% (RCP4.5 RCP8.5 respectively) toward period 2041–2070 10–25% 15–40% RCP8.5) 2071–2100. Drought-related reveal positive trends, particularly high greenhouse-gas emission scenario, number days increasing 20–50% 40–80% (during 2071–2100, respectively). On contrary, tend future.

متن کاملDecadal changes in extreme daily precipitation in Greece
The changes in daily precipitation totals in Greece, during the 45-year period (1957–2001) are examined. The precipitation datasets concern daily totals recorded at 21 surface meteorological stations of the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, which are uniformly distributed over the Greek region. First and foremost, the application of Factor Analysis resulted in grouping the meteorologica...
متن کاملChanges in Moisture entering the atmosphere of Iran and its relationship with seasonal wet and dry periods
Spatio-temporal variations of factors affecting the occurrence of precipitation can lead to a change in its amount. The atmospheric moisture is one of the most important factors for precipitation formation. In this study, changes in atmospheric moisture and its relation with occurrence of seasonal wet and dry periods were investigated in Iran. The re-analysis data from the ERA interim European ...
متن کاملCharacterizing differences in precipitation regimes of extreme wet and dry years: implications for climate change experiments.
Climate change is intensifying the hydrologic cycle and is expected to increase the frequency of extreme wet and dry years. Beyond precipitation amount, extreme wet and dry years may differ in other ways, such as the number of precipitation events, event size, and the time between events. We assessed 1614 long-term (100 year) precipitation records from around the world to identify key attribute...
