Progress and prospect of developing salt and alkali tolerant rice using hybrid rice technology in China

چکیده
Soil salinization and alkalization are important abiotic stresses that affect crop growth yield. Development of salt alkali tolerant varieties is still dominated by the following conventional breeding method: The traits from screened germplasm introduced into elite means hybridization backcrossing. In recent years, rice has also made great progress. For example, yield Chao-You 1000, a two-line hybrid, reached 12.04 t/ha growing in fields with salinity between 0.2% 0.6%. This review an update on progress screening new development. By reviewing performance current hybrids China's National Regional Variety Trials Saline-Alkali Tolerant Rice, we proposed technical approach developing saline–alkali using third-generation hybrid technology furthermore trend hybrids.

There have been six times of severe heat damages happened to the mid-season rice in Yangtze River Valley (YRV), China during the past 50 years, with the latest one occurred in 2003. It was estimated that the involved acreage of rice in 2003 was about 3 million ha, with a loss of about 5.18 million rice grain yields. The serious heat stress situation in YRV might be closely correlated with the c...

Rice (Oryza sativa L.) is one of the most significant cereal crops, about 3 billion people, nearly half the world's population; depend on rice for survival and it offers up to 80% of daily energy intake in most of the Asian countries. Knowledge of the distribution, extent and pattern of genetic variation is useful for estimation of any possible loss of genetic diversity and its role in breeding...
متن کاملProgress in Research and Development on Hybrid Rice: A Super-domesticate in China
BACKGROUND China has been successful in breeding hybrid rice strains, but is now facing challenges to develop new hybrids with high-yielding potential, better grain quality, and tolerance to biotic and abiotic stresses. This paper reviews the most significant advances in hybrid rice breeding in China, and presents a recent study on fine-mapping quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for yield traits. ...

Since rice is a staple food most consumed world-wide, there have been increasing health concerns regarding exposure to arsenic through rice consumption. Several studies have reported the accumulation of arsenic in rice grains cultivated in regions with elevated levels of arsenic in groundwater or contaminated soil. Therefore the principal aim of this study was determining the amount of arsenic ...
