Mechanisms of progesterone-induced neuroprotection.
Gonadal steroid hormones such as estrogen and progesterone can no longer be considered strictly within the confines of reproductive function, and with respect to their anatomic targets, extrahypothalamic structures within the brain such as the cerebral cortex have revealed themselves to be important targets. As such, it may come as no surprise that the decline in such hormones, which occurs aft...
متن کاملO 5: Coagulation Factors in Multiple Sclerosis may Represent Diagnostic and Therapeutic Strategies
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a neuroinflammatory autoimmune disease which mediated by various molecular and cellular immune components However Recent reports have shown that coagulation factors that traditionally separate from the immune system might also be involved in MS development and progression.studies on experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE) and human MS patients reports alterati...
متن کاملPhage fitness may help predict phage therapy efficacy
We isolated 6 phages from 2 environmental water sources and assessed their ability to treat Pseudomonas aeruginosa infection of Drosophila melanogaster. We found all 6 phages were able to significantly increase mean survival time (MST) of infected D. melanogaster. Although phage traits, such as adsorption rate, burst size, and lysis time, varied significantly among these phages, none of the tra...
متن کاملTherapeutic exercise for knee osteoarthritis: considering factors that may influence outcome.
While exercise has been shown to be beneficial for reducing pain and improving physical function in individuals with knee osteoarthritis (OA), there are still individuals who do not always respond well to this treatment approach. There are a number of factors that have been shown to influence either the degree of disability and/or the progression of disease in individuals with knee OA. These fa...
متن کاملPsychological factors that predict reaction to abortion.
Investigated demographic and psychological factors related to positive or negative reactions to legal abortions performed during the first trimester of pregnancy in 62 females in an urban southern community.
