Production of Single-Cell Protein from Fruit Peel Wastes Using Palmyrah Toddy Yeast

Single-cell protein (SCP) from agro-waste material has gained increased attention in the recent past as a relatively cheap and alternative source to meet nutritional demand generated by fast-growing population. Furthermore, bioconversion of these wastes into SCP such value-added products reduce environmental-related issues. In this study, locally available pineapple (Ananas comosus), watermelon (Citrullus lanatus), papaya (Carica papaya), sour orange (Citrus medica), banana (Musa acuminata) mango (Mangifera indica) peel were investigated for their suitability produce using palmyrah (Borassus flabellifer) toddy carrying natural mixed yeast bacteria culture under liquid state fermentation system. Moreover, study attempted select best substrate optimized process condition production increase yield. Nucleic acid reduction treatment reduces content biomass. It can be concluded that is suitable protein-rich cell palmyrah.
