Product design lifecycle information model (PDLIM)

Abstract In response to rapidly changing market and customer needs, product design development (PDD) is evolving into a human-centred data-driven paradigm. The environment gets more open often involving crowdsourcing the process becomes complex, considering family along whole lifecycle development, needing data support. Therefore, it critical effectively capture, share, manage design-related information in such complex environment. From this perspective, prerequisite have proper model (PDLIM) guide gathering, sharing management. To best of our knowledge, currently, there lacks PDLIM support effective PDD, though digital twin (DT) technology shows great potential supporting collection paper, overall structure proposed firstly developed frame all main stages corresponding key phases for structurally capturing storing necessary lifecycle. Secondly, items against their are explored from literature reviews case study analyses. Thirdly, necessity identified qualitatively evaluated by two studies. Finally, further applying formal object-role modelling (ORM) demonstrate how used interacted exemplary interaction scenarios, approve that can be formally described managed as an model. evaluation results show feasible adapted crowdsourcing-combined PDD management, reviewing, quality control, next round redesign improvement.
