Processing and tribological behaviour of carbon fiber reinforced polylactic acid composites

Thermoplastic composites are acquiring more importance in various tribological applications due to their self-lubricity, low melting, and ease of fabrication. In this research article, processing via fused deposition modelling dry sliding wear behaviour neat short carbon fiber reinforced polylactic acid have been investigated. A series tests using a pin-on-disc apparatus was carried out by varying tribo-parameters namely applied load (10, 20, 30 N), velocity (0.5, 1.0, 1.5 m/s), distance (1000, 2000, 3000 m) following the response surface methodology. Analysis variance performed for optimizing operating parameters with respect minimum specific rate. The experimental outcomes showed decrease rate 70 % comparison acid, reinforcement fibers. Worn morphology show fine groves direction, thinning fibers net work microcracks few pull-out fibres from matrix material.
