Process Automation and Process Mining in Manufacturing

Process automation and process mining are (interconnected) key technologies with respect to digital transformation. Hence, expectations high, in particular, challenging application domains such as manufacturing that combine systems, machines, sensors, users. Moreover, processes operate at a high level of collaboration, e.g. inter-factory or cross-organizational settings. This paper investigates the following questions: 1) How automate processes? 2) What specifics involvements humans? 3) do strategies impact options vice versa? For 1), we discuss two starting positions practice, i.e., legacy greenfield automation. 2), range human involvement, non-interactive automation, robotic supportive interactive 3), different settings examined data collection integration capabilities.
