چکیده

Abstract Background Intestinal dysbiosis is believed to be one of the factors inducing neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). Probiotics have been employed treat NEC in a number animal experiments and clinical trials, some significant benefits utilizing probiotics for prevention or alleviation confirmed. However, mechanism underlying efficacy treating has not elucidated. Results Impairment intestinal barrier, which was characterized by decreased expression tight junction components, observed pathogenesis NEC. The probiotic mixture alleviated this damage enhancing function barrier. Meanwhile, remodeled composition microbiota mice. Furthermore, increased pregnane X receptor (PXR) after treatment with mixture, PXR overexpression Caco-2 cells protected barrier from lipopolysaccharide (LPS) damage. Further research showed that could inhibit phosphorylation c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) increase components. Conclusions Our study confirmed ameliorate lesions mucosal Specifically, may target PXR, subsequently enhance components inhibiting JNK

Probiotics and necrotizing enterocolitis.

One of the most controversial areas in neonatology is whether probiotics should be provided routinely to preterm infants to prevent necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). This review provides the reader with a brief overview of NEC and current concepts of its pathophysiology, discusses the microbial ecology of the intestine in preterm infants and factors that may lead to a "dysbiosis", summarizes stu...

matory response of the immature intestinal immune system, resulting in rapidly evolving intestinal gangrene, perforation, sepsis, shock and death [1, 2, 4] . Probiotics have been shown to be able to modify both the intestinal microbiota as well as the intestinal immune response. On this background, several clinical trials have been carried out in order to investigate the potential role of probi...

Probiotics for the prevention of necrotizing enterocolitis.

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality for low birth weight premature infants. Prematurity, ischemia, formula feeding, and bacterial colonization are risk factors for the self-perpetuating cycle of damaged intestinal epithelia, inflammation, bacterial entry, sepsis, and shock that characterizes NEC. Probiotics are food supplements containing live ...

Probiotics and Synbiotics in Necrotizing Enterocolitis: Where Are We?

Preterm neonates are susceptible to complications, including necrotizing enterocolitis, a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. Probiotics are live microorganisms, that when administered in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit to the host. Current evidence suggests that probiotics are effective in decreasing the incidence of NEC in preterm infants. Nondigestible oligosaccharides ‘prebi...
