Probiotic Lactobacilli in Fermented Dairy Products: Selective Detection, Enumeration and Identification Scheme

A selection of 36 commercial probiotic fermented dairy products from UK and Europe markets were evaluated for the numbers, types, viability Lactobacillus strains against stated information on their packages. comparative study was carried out selectivity MRS-Clindamycin, MRS-Sorbitol, MRS-IM Maltose, to select right medium enumeration Lactobacillus. Based recovery targeted lactobacilli, also simplicity preparation, MRS-Clindamycin chosen as best in milks. The results lactobacilli showed that 22 a total tested contained more than 106 colony-forming units/g at end shelf life, which comply with recommended minimum therapeutic level probiotics. Rep-PCR using primer GTG-5 applied initial discrimination isolated strains, isolates, presented different band profile, placed groups. spp. identified mainly acidophilus, casei, paracasei by analysis partial sequences 16S ribosomal RNA rpoA genes.
