Probabilistic fatigue model for design and life extension of mooring chains, including mean load and corrosion effects

A probabilistic model for mooring chain fatigue damage is developed based on the S–N approach. The effects of mean load and corrosion condition capacity chains are included by adopting a parameterized curve intercept parameter, allows uncertainties time dependencies these to be addressed. Uncertainties in loads also accounted for, including annual variability which may importance certain cases. Furthermore, resulting distinguishes between due prior known future unknown loads, allow reduced case that history available from measurements or calculations. Measures taken ensure correlation cyclic handled implicitly. study extensive hindcast-based simulations realistic system performed, respective capacity, development presented discussed.
