چکیده
Primary sludge fermentate, a concentrated hydrolyzed wastewater carbon, was evaluated for use as an alternative carbon source mainstream partial denitrification–anammox (PdNA) in suspended growth activated process terms of denitrification (PdN) efficiency, PdNA nitrogen removal contributions, and final effluent quality. Fermenter operation at 2-day retention time (SRT) resulted the maximum achievable yield 0.14 ± 0.05 g sCOD/g VSS without release excessive ammonia phosphorus to system. Based on results batch experiments, fermentate addition led PdN efficiency 93 14%, which similar acetate nitrate residual 2–3 mg N/L. In pilot-scale deammonification reactor, using 49 24%, lower than (66 24% during period I 70 21% II), most probably due ammonium kinetics zone. Methanol cost-saving potential application main short-cut pathway estimated be 30% 55% depending achieved. Practitioner points (PdNA). operated 1 2 day SRT Although 93% achieved with around 49% pilot studies. Application can result significant methanol cost savings.

Sonicated Sludge as Carbon Source for Denitrification
Ultrawaves sludge sonication technology was trialled at Maroochydore STP from February to June 2013. This was believed to be the first fullscale application of mechanical sludge lysis for enhanced denitrification in Australia. The results of the trial confirmed that sonicated waste activated sludge (WAS) could effectively replace the use of methanol as a carbon source for denitrification, and t...
متن کاملLandfarmed oil sludge as a carbon source for Canavalia ensiformis during phytoremediation
Petroleum exploitation in oilfields, especially drilling, generates an oily sludge mixed with hydrocarbons and mineral solids. This oily sludge is sometimes treated by bioremediation and phytoremediation. This investigation established that landfarmed oil sludge provided adequate soil conditions to grow jack beans (Canavalia ensiformis) that in turn rhizoand phytoremediated residual aliphatic a...
متن کاملCarbon Footprint Analyses of Mainstream Wastewater Treatment Technologies under Different Sludge Treatment Scenarios in China
With rapid urbanization and infrastructure investment, wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) in Chinese cities are putting increased pressure on energy consumption and exacerbating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. A carbon footprint is provided as a tool to quantify the life cycle GHG emissions and identify opportunities to reduce climate change impacts. This study examined three mainstream wastew...
متن کاملA distillery by-product as an external carbon source for enhancing denitrification in mainstream and sidestream treatment processes.
The use of fusel oil as an 'alternative' carbon source for denitrification in the mainstream and sidestream treatment processes was studied. Research comprised two kinds of batch experiments as well as acclimation of process biomass to external carbon sources. In the conventional nitrate utilization rate (NUR) measurements (one-phase experiments with non-acclimated biomass), the NUR with fusel ...
متن کاملMechanical sludge disintegration for the production of carbon source for biological nutrient removal.
The primary driver for a successful biological nutrient removal is the availability of suitable carbon source, mainly in the form of volatile fatty acids (VFA). Several methods have been examined to increase the amount of VFAs in wastewater. This study investigates the mechanism of mechanical disintegration of thickened surplus activated sludge by a deflaker technology for the production of org...
