Primary Sjogren's Syndrome Presenting as Osteomalacia
Background: The most common renal disease in Sjogren’s syndrome (SjS) is tubulo-interstitial nephritis, which is responsible for renal tubular acidosis type 1 (RTA-1) in around 20% of patients. Osteomalacia rarely occurs as the first manifestation of a renal tubule disorder due to a connective tissue disease such as SjS. Results and conclusion: We report a 47-year-old woman with tubular acidosi...
متن کاملPrimary Sjogrens Syndrome in a Child
Sjögren syndrome is uncommon in children and occurs most often in association with autoimmune diseases (secondary Sjögren syndrome). We describe the clinical and biological features of a 7-year-old girl with primary Sjögren syndrome revealed by recurrent parotiditis. CASE REPORT A 7-year-old girl was referred for investigation of multiple episodes of parotid swelling since age 4 years, withou...
متن کاملOsteomalacia in adolescents presenting as proximal myopathy
We report three adolescent patients with osteomalacia who presented initially with clinical features consistent with proximal myopathy. All patients had low serum level of 25 hydroxy vitamin D. Furthermore, radiological investigations confirmed osteomalacia. Myopathy responded well to appropriate treatment of osteomalacia. Possible pathophysiologic explanation of myopathy in patients with osteo...
متن کامل3431 Conjunctiva immunopathology in primary sjogrens syndrome (1° S.S.)
Aim: To evaluate the histological changes and immune response of conjuctiva in patients (pts) with lo S.S. Materials and Methods: We studied conjunctiial biopsies from 15 pts with I0 S.S. and 2 normal controls using 1) paraflfn section screening for the quality of conjunctival epithelium (CE), the number of goblet cells (GC) and the degree of inflammation, 2) Mo-abs and Pabs to: Tlymphocytes, T...
متن کاملPrimary Sjögren's Syndrome Presenting as Flaccid Quadriparesis.
Primary Sjögren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease presenting classically as keratoconjunctivitis sicca. Renal involvement in Sjögrens's syndrome is less common, and the initial presentation with renal complications without any sicca symptoms is extremely rare. The renal involvement may present with symptoms arising from interstitial nephritis, mainly distal renal tubular acidosis.
