Primary prostatic signet ring cell carcinoma in elderly with obstructive uropathy: a case report

Abstract Background Primary signet-ring cell carcinoma (SRCC) of the prostate is a rare and aggressive subtype adenocarcinoma with poor prognosis, only approximately 60 cases reported worldwide. Case presentation A 62-year-old man presented acute urinary retention hematuria, after year’s history lower tract symptoms. Digital rectal examination revealed an irregular hard prostate. Flexible cystoscopy showed bladder base infiltration by enlarged obscuring both ureteric orifices, necessitating nephrostomy subsequent bilateral antegrade stenting to relieve obstruction improve his renal function. Transrectal ultrasonography biopsy was performed revealing histological features SRCC. Due its rarity, there currently no standardized treatment approach it often similarly treated according traditional management adenocarcinoma. Conclusions SRCC acinar established guidelines. Histological criteria for are highly variable in available literature. It important differentiate between primary metastatic as managed differently. However, overall prognosis remains general.
