Primary pontine hemorrhage: clinicopathological correlations.
In 18 autopsies from patients with primary pontine hemorrhage we studied the sites of bleeding, the volumes and development of hematomas and clinicopathological correlations. A modular optical electronic planimeter was introduced to measure the size of hematomas. The series of patients can be divided into 2 groups from the viewpoint of bleeding sites, their development and clinical symptomatolo...
متن کاملPredictors of Surgical Results in Patients with Primary Pontine Hemorrhage.
AIM Prediction of outcome for surgical patients with primary pontine hemorrhage (PPH) is seldom reported although many predictors from clinical and radiological features have been identified in conservative patients. The purpose of this study was to assess the prognostic factors affecting the 30-day mortality and 3-month functional outcome in surgical patients after PPH. MATERIAL AND METHODS ...
متن کاملAtaxic hemiparesis in patients with primary pontine hemorrhage.
Two patients with small primary pontine hemorrhage developed a syndrome identical to ataxic hemiparesis, one of the lacunar syndromes of Fisher. The possible mechanisms of the homolateral cerebellar signs, pyramidal signs, and dysarthria are discussed. Lesions of the ipsilateral pontine nuclei may be responsible for the homolateral ataxia.
متن کاملPrimary pontine hemorrhage and gustatory disturbance: clinicoanatomic study.
A clinicoanatomic study of 12 patients with tegmental-type primary pontine hemorrhage proved the presence of a gustatory disturbance among other clinical symptoms on the same side of the tongue as that of the pontine lesion, and suggested the secondary pathway of gustatory sensation from the solitary tract nucleus ascends without decussation in the homolateral pontine tegmentum. These results c...
متن کاملCT findings and clinical features as markers for patient outcome in primary pontine hemorrhage.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The overall mortality rate of primary pontine hemorrhage (PPH) in recent studies is 40-50%. The aim of the present study was to analyze the predictive value of clinical and neuroradiologic parameters concerning the outcome of patients with PPH. METHODS We reviewed the clinical data of 29 consecutive patients (mean age, 59 +/- 13.5 years; 12 women, 17 men) with PPH. Nati...
