Primary cilia presence and implications in bladder cancer progression and invasiveness

چکیده
Urothelial bladder cancer is the tenth most common worldwide. It divided into muscle and non-muscle invading cancer. Primary cilia have been related to several hallmarks such as proliferation, epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) or tumoral progression mainly through signaling pathways Hedgehog (Hh). In present study, we used immunohistochemical ultrastructural techniques in human tissues of healthy bladder, non-muscle-invasive (NMIBC) muscle-invasive (MIBC) study clarify activation pathway presence primary cilia. Thus, found a clear correlation between EMT stage progression. Moreover, identified these tissues. Interestingly, that NMIBC, some ciliated cells cross basement membrane localized lamina propria, near blood vessels. These results show beginning from urothelial basal assembly suggest potential implication this structure migration invasiveness (likely Hh-dependent way). Hence, may play fundamental role suppose therapeutic target.

Primary Cilia Are Lost in Preinvasive and Invasive Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer in men worldwide. Little is known about the role of primary cilia in preinvasive and invasive prostate cancer. However, reduced cilia expression has been observed in human cancers including pancreatic cancer, renal cell carcinoma, breast cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, and melanoma. The aim of this study was to characterize primary cilia ...
متن کاملPrimary Cilia in the Breast and Breast Cancer
Primary cilia are non-motile, microtubule-based appendages extending from the surfaces of most vertebrate cells. The function of primary cilia is cell-type dependent. However, they are known to serve as sensors of the extracellular environment by sensing mechanical forces and chemical constituents in several different cell types. They also function as critical platforms for several signaling pa...
متن کاملAn essential role for decorin in bladder cancer invasiveness
Muscle-invasive forms of urothelial carcinomas are responsible for most mortality in bladder cancer. Finding new treatments for invasive bladder tumours requires adequate animal models to decipher the mechanisms of progression, in particular the way tumours interact with their microenvironment. Herein, using the murine bladder tumour cell line MB49 and its more aggressive variant MB49-I, we dem...
متن کاملCan recurrence and progression be predicted by HYAL-1 expression in primary T1 bladder cancer?
BACKGROUND Molecular prognostic markers have been under investigation for the last decade and no validated marker to date has been proven to be used in daily clinical practice for urinary bladder cancers. The aim of the present study is to evaluate the significance of HYAL-1 expression in prediction of recurrence and progression in pT1 urothelial carcinomas. MATERIALS AND METHODS Eighty-nine ...
