Prevalence of severe acute malnutrition among 6-59 months children from community-based SAM management program in Dungarpur district of southern Rajasthan: diving deeper through study of block-wise prevalence

Background: Acute malnutrition (severe and moderate) is a major public health problem in India especially Rajasthan. National family surveys now provide prevalence of SAM children till district level but there’s an undenying need for data at even more granular, like block level, to assess the field reality depth. The present study tries demystify same by studying collected from community-based management program i.e., AMMA (acute action) Dungarpur. Methods: As part program, wise 20 districts Rajasthan was monthly during implementation its dedicated MIS used as source this data. includes information all screened age-group 6-59 months Dungarpur which subsequently analyzed studied level. assessed, using Mid Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) children. <12.5 cm MUAC considered acute while <11.5 per WHO standards. Results: A total 1,13,547 were (84.91%) period. 4829 (4.25%) found with Malnutrition, out 4622 identified moderately (MAM) 207 are SAM. Out SAM, 118 girls (57%) 89 (43%) boys. came 0.18% whereas state 0.9%. Among blocks varied low 0.02% Dowda Chikhali high 0.63% Jothari block. Conclusions: Prevalence block-wise analysis helped further disaggregating burden. To identify urgent do screening based on WFH Z-score instead complete reliance tape.
