Prevalence and causes of dental malpractice in Khorramabad, Iran during 2012-2016

Background: Dental malpractice claims have increased in recent years. Investigating the reasons for dental can help dentists overcome this issue by providing high-quality service and promoting patient safety. This study aims to investigate prevalence of dentistry Khorramabad, Iran its possible reasons. Materials Methods: In descriptive cross-sectional study, we examined all closed cases registered forensic medicine organization medical system during 2012-2016, evaluated contributing factors including demographic type malpractice. Data analysis was performed SPSS v.22 software. Results: Out 73 complaint cases, 65 were study. The mean age patients 33.49±10.65. Most complainants female (59.3%) aged 30-45 years (41.5%), with a university degree (26.2%), residing urban areas (70.8%). maximum interval between time treatment registration less than one year (72.1%). majority complaints against male (87.5%) general education (54.7%). most frequent final verdict dentist (49.1%). malpractices from negligence (32%), related performing surgery alone (33.8%). Conclusion: Khorramabad city are dentists, mostly field surgery. females. To reduce incidence limit their consequences, it is necessary develop control strategies promote training practitioners.
