Preparedness regarding first response to emergencies in the community among graduate students: A cross-sectional study in India

Background: The key to successful outcomes in time-sensitive emergencies involves a pivotal role played by bystanders identifying and initiating first response. This turn depends on their awareness perspective regarding the same. Objective: study aimed assess existing attitude response students pursuing graduation, an Indian University. Methods: were administered pilot-tested questionnaire response, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) automated external defibrillators (AEDs). A total of 1851 included from various disciplines- both health care professional training (HCPT) non-HCPT students. Results: Poor knowledge was noticed across several themes including emergency helpline number (61.48%), recognising cardiac arrest (33.98%), about hands-only CPR (12.26%), rate chest compressions adults (25.01%) infants (19.67%), steps using AED (17.45%). Only 29.17% participants had undergone previous CPR. 57% willing initiate victims. Some major barriers identified no prior (62.4%) perceived harm victims (26.9%). mean score low 69% scored less than 50%. significant predictors lower age, male gender, students, having not witnessed before. Conclusions: There is preparedness crucial links chain survival arrest. However, willingness among learn encouraging finding.
