Preparation of Activated Carbons from Spent Coffee Grounds and Coffee Parchment and Assessment of Their Adsorbent Efficiency

The valorization of coffee wastes through modification to activated carbon has been considered as a low-cost adsorbent with prospective compete commercial carbons. So far, very few studies have referred the parchment into carbon. Moreover, and efficient activation methods need be more investigated. aim this work was prepare from spent grounds parchment, assess their adsorption performance. co-calcination processing calcium carbonate used carbons, capacity for organic acids, phenolic compounds proteins evaluated. Both showed yields after calcination washing treatments around 9.0%. lactic acid found optimal at pH 2. maximum standard granular 73.78 mg/g, while values 32.33 14.73 mg/g were registered respectively. Langmuir isotherm that adsorbed monolayer distributed homogeneously on surface. Around 50% total phenols protein content wastewater treatment prepared 44, 43, up 84% hydrophobic removed using carbon, respectively; efficiencies hydrophilic ranged between 13 48%. Finally, these results illustrate potential by-products use removal aqueous solutions.
