Preparation and Microstructural Characterization of Five-layered Aluminium-Aluminium Oxide Functionally Graded Material

Abstract In this research, the metallic phase Aluminium (Al) and ceramic Oxide (Al 2 O 3 ) were combined in different proportions for preparation of five-layered Al-Al functionally graded material. Delamination or crack is common problem at metal-ceramic interface because large difference material properties. Therefore, main objective research was to investigate defects within layer during processing structure. The compositions weight percentages structure are 100%Al+0%Al , 95%Al+5%Al 90%Al+10%Al 85%Al+15%Al 80%Al+20%Al . During composite structure, conventional two-step sintering cycle followed. Heating rate 2°C/min, temperature 630°C time hours maintained. It observed that there uniform distribution Al particle matrix with minimum agglomeration, all interfaces almost parallel layers boundary gradual transition occurred from first fifth which confirmed proper processes addition, it evident no existence any prepared
