چکیده
Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is a chronic debilitating disease prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions, caused by protozoan parasites of the genus Leishmania. Annually, it approximated occurrence 0.2 to 0.4 million novel cases worldwide. The cast film method was used prepared cationic mannosylated liposomes. surface Amphotericin B (Amp B)-bearing multilamellar liposomes covalently coupled with p-aminophenyl-?-D-mannoside using glutaraldehyde as coupling agent, which proved agglutination vesicles concanavalin A. were characterized for shape, size, % drug entrapment, vesicle count, zeta potential vitro release. Vesicle sizes establish be 2.71±0.12and 1.62±0.08?m, respectively. Zeta higher (28.38 ± 0.3 mV), compared (15.7 0.8 mV). release from mannose-coupled established 45.7% 41.9%, respectively, after 24 hrs. In present work, Amp prepared, optimized effectual organization VL.

Sodium stibogluconate (SSG) in the dose of 20 mg/kg body weight daily intramuscularly for 20-30 days is recommended by WHO as the first line drug for Indian visceral leishmaniasis (VL). Relapses following therapy and unresponsiveness to the higher doses of SSG are still a problem in north Bihar. Serious toxicity of SSG including myocarditis, sudden death and renal failure have also been reporte...

A case of visceral leishmaniasis unresponsive to several course of treatment with standard drugs, was successfully cured by a 21 day course (50 mg/day) of liposomal amphotericin B (AmBisome, Vestar Inc.). The efficacy of the AmBisome formulation is supported by experimental studies on Leishmania donovani infected BALB/c mice where ED50 values of AmBisome and conventional amphotericin B were 0.1...
