چکیده
Abstract OBJECTIVES The prognostic nutritional index (PNI) is an indicator of systemic immune-nutritional condition and a well-known biomarker in lung cancer patients. Tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) specific histological feature cancers, influencing individual’s immunological tumour responses. However, whether PNI can reflect patients’ prognosis through local immunity such as TIL unclear. METHODS We selected 64 squamous cell carcinoma patients who underwent curative operations. investigated the significance preoperative level evaluated relationship between immune cells surrounding tissue using immunohistochemical analysis cluster differentiation (CD)3, CD4, CD8 CD68. RESULTS A low-PNI was significantly associated with worse postoperative (P = 0.042). (hazard ratio 2.768, 95% confidence interval 1.320–5.957; P 0.007) independent factor. group had shorter recurrence-free survival overall 0.013 0.002, log-rank test) compared high-PNI group. significant positive correlation components including peripheral blood lymphocyte count serum albumin concentration, TILs, observed. Absolute numbers TILs were increased those (CD3+ cells; CD4+ 0.049 CD8+ 0.024). CONCLUSIONS strongly outcome Considering status, may influence well response.

Prognostic impact of pleural invasion in 1488 patients with surgically resected non-small cell lung carcinoma.
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to verify the prognostic impact of pleural invasion according to the revised TNM classification, seventh edition. METHODS The study consisted of 1488 patients with surgically resected non-small cell carcinoma. The degree (pl0-3) and location of pleural invasion were examined using hematoxylin and eosin- and elastica van Gieson-stained slides, and outcome was compare...
متن کاملReduction of p12 Expression Is a Negative Prognostic Indicator in Patients with Surgically Resected Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Purpose: p12 is a growth suppressor that negatively regulates cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) activities. Expression of p12 is reduced and/or lost in tumor tissues. The purpose of this study is to correlate in vivo the expression of p12 in oral cancer tissues by immunohistochemistry with clinical and pathological parameters. Experimental Design: Twenty-five cases of normal oral mucosa and 127 ...
متن کاملPreoperative neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio and prognostic nutritional index predict survival in patients with non-small cell lung cancer
BACKGROUND The immunological status, consisting of "inflammation status" and "nutritional condition," is important for the survival of patients with various cancers, including non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). The neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR) reflects the inflammation status, and the prognostic nutritional index (PNI) reflects the immunological nutritional condition. In the present study...
متن کاملA novel prognostic index for oral squamous cell carcinoma patients with surgically treated
This study aims to develop an applicable prognostic index with conventional factors for predicting outcome of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). We performed a prospective study in a large cohort of 892 OSCC patients in Fujian, China. All patients were randomly divided into a discovery group and validation group. A prognostic index was developed based on β value of each signific...
متن کاملSignificance of the prognostic nutritional index in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma
BACKGROUND The prognostic nutritional index (PNI) is related to the prognosis in many cancers; however, its role in esophageal cancer is still controversial. Further, controversy exists concerning the optimal cut-off points for PNI to predict survival. The aim of this study was to determine the prognostic value of PNI and propose the optimal cut-off points for PNI in predicting cancer-specific ...
