چکیده

Novel eVTOL aircraft configurations are picking up momentum in the emerging market of urban air mobility (UAM). These feature electrical power systems and distributed propulsion architectures, both uncommon current aircraft. As such, design lies outside bounds established frameworks poses many challenges field preliminary design. This paper presents a methodology for open rotor with batteries as source. First, propeller external dimensions calculated, then an optimised blade geometry cruise condition is computed. Thereupon, electric motors sized. The framework applied to range 400 km capacity five occupants (four passengers one pilot), focusing on central-European aimed be released 2030. final configuration battery-powered tandem-wing 12 variable-pitch, variable-speed rotors placed leading edges wings. rotate outboard-down six blades. source comprises 24 solid-state lithium nominal voltage 500 V assumed energy density Wh/kg. proposed offers possibility computing necessary numerical simulations early stages design, easily obtaining accurate estimates mass system which can improve overall analysed configuration.

Distributed Turboelectric Propulsion for Hybrid Wing Body Aircraft

Meeting future goals for aircraft and air traffic system performance will require new airframes with more highly integrated propulsion. Previous studies have evaluated hybrid wing body (HWB) configurations with various numbers of engines and with increasing degrees of propulsion-airframe integration. A recently published configuration with 12 small engines partially embedded in a HWB aircraft, ...

Aircraft System Simulation for Preliminary Design

Developments in computational hardware and simulation software have come to a point where it is possible to use whole mission simulation in a framework for conceptual/preliminary design. This paper is about the implementation of full system simulation software for conceptual/preliminary aircraft design. It is based on the new Hopsan NG simulation package, developed at the Linköping University. ...

Preliminary Design of a Tandem-Wing Tail-Sitter UAV Using Multi-Disciplinary Design Optimisation

The optimisation of a tail-sitter UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) that uses a stall-tumble manoeuvre to transition from vertical to horizontal flight and a pull-up manoeuvre to regain the vertical is investigated. The tandem wing vehicle is controlled in the hover and vertical flight phases by prop-wash over wing mounted control surfaces. It represents an innovative and potentially simple solutio...

Design and Analysis of Aircraft Wing

In the present study, a general aviation airplane is designed and analyzed. The design process starts with a sketch of how the airplane is envisioned. Weight is estimated based on the sketch and a chosen design mission profile. A more refined method is conducted based on calculated performance parameters to achieve a more accurate weight estimate which is used to acquire the external geometry o...

System Noise Assessment of Blended-Wing-Body Aircraft with Open Rotor Propulsion

An aircraft system noise study is presented for the Blended-Wing-Body (BWB) aircraft concept with three open rotor engines mounted on the upper surface of the airframe. It is shown that for such an aircraft, the cumulative Effective Perceived Noise Level (EPNL) is about 24 dB below the current aircraft noise regulations of Stage 4. While this makes the design acoustically viable in meeting the ...
