Preliminary Analysis of Daily Rainfall Data from Kano State using Statistical Techniques

A 35-year annual rainfall was collected from NIMET to determine the Standard Precipitation Index (SPI) and also study trend of parameter in Kano State, Northern Nigeria. The paper captures average (normal rainfall) data for thirty-five years period which implies a about 1081.56mm. positive values (above zero) signify rainfalls that were higher than normal (wet); while negative (below imply lower (dry). From anomaly, 18 (52.9%) recorded wet due fact occurred those greater 1081.56; 16 (47.1%) dry because below rainfall. In study, Weilbul method used return order predict year occurrence maximum addition, periods dry, or temperatures. September 1991 minimum SPI value -0.86 (moderately dry), October 2011 1.88 wet). This is carried out importance agriculture region Nigeria at large. state well known support food production country. Also, presence dams further buttresses this study. Dams have many purposes; one during season. It observed basin has no definite pattern.
