Predominant approaches in studies on health-related quality of life of young survivors of childhood or adolescent cancer: an integrative literature review

Abstract Survivors of childhood cancer constitute a growing population. The disease experienced, its treatment or the occurrence late complications may affect survivors’ health-related quality life (HRQOL). Understanding HRQOL is challenge due to conceptual complexity and mode in which it studied. Objective: To identify predominant lines research study this Methods: An integrative literature review was carried out, involving systematic search primary articles indexed Scopus PubMed databases. Results: In 48 publications selected, four main were identified: survivors general; long-term survivors; determinants HRQOL; methodological aspects measurement. A quantitative approach using generic measurement instruments predominates, model based on function emphasizes importance physical, psychological, social functionality impact these aspects. Conclusions: incorporating qualitative, meaning-based understanding lived experiences from subjective holistic perspective indispensable.
