Prednisolone Dosing Regimen for Treatment of Subacute Thyroiditis.
The rate of recurrence of subacute thyroiditis (SAT) during prednisolone (PSL) therapy is approximately 10 to 20%. However, there is little or no information on the time period to relapse following administration of a tapered dose of PSL and the factors associated with such relapse. The aim of this study was to determine the correlation between SAT recurrence and PSL tapering regimen used in th...
متن کاملChanges in thyroid hormones by treatment with aspirin and prednisolone in subacute thyroiditis with hyperthyroidism.
Thyroid functions were studied in 11 patients with subacute thyroiditis accompanied by signs and symptoms of hyperthyroidism, and were compared with 13 patients with untreated thyrotoxicosis in which serum T4 was elevated to the identical level. Serum T3 was also elevated in subacute thyroiditis but to a significantly lower extent than in thyrotoxicosis. Therefore the ratio of T4/T3 was signifi...

Figure 1. Intermediate-power microscopy shows the eosinophilic colloid-filled follicles at the periphery. In many follicles in the center, the epithelium has been replaced by the inflammatory reaction and the colloid is reduced or absent. Microabscess formation with foreign-body-type giant cells can be seen. Figure 2. A: The colloid is engulfed by the ring of foreign-body-type giant cells with ...
متن کاملAtypical presentation of subacute thyroiditis.
Subacute thyroiditis is extremely rare during the first decade of life. We describe a case of subacute thyroiditis in a 2 year old child whose initial clinical, sonographic, and radioisotopic features were indistinguishable from acute suppurative thyroiditis. The diagnosis was established by a raised antibody titre against adenovirus and typical increased thyroid function tests.
متن کاملTreatment of chronic sarcoidosis with an azathioprine/prednisolone regimen.
In a few patients with chronic sarcoidosis, prolonged, unacceptably high doses of corticosteroids are required to achieve symptomatic relief. In these cases, a corticosteroid-sparing drug might be administered to allow long-term treatment without the adverse effects of corticosteroids. This study examines azathioprine as a prednisolone-sparing treatment. In an open study, the course of 11 patie...
