چکیده
Background: Neonates with urinary tract infection (UTI) are susceptible to higher rates of morbidity and mortality, specifically when presented hyperbilirubinemia. Screening for UTIs in jaundiced neonates is a cost-effective strategy. The aims this study were investigate the pattern UTI (prevalence, etiology, antimicrobial agents) admitted NICU unexplained indirect hyperbilirubinemia, as well identify early predictors order reduce present long-term consequences patients.
. Methods: A cross-sectional hospital-based that included 140 diagnosed hyperbilirubinemia first 4 weeks life. questionnaire was applied obtain demographic clinical data. number laboratory parameters assessed examination. Bacterial growth 1 × 103 colony-forming units/mL single uropathogen used existence UTI. Multivariate analysis predicting factors UTIs. Results: In group investigated, 25.7% subjects had culture-proved most frequently isolated organism Escherichia coli. Early prediction of urinary tract infection in neonates with hyperbilirubinemia
INTRODUCTION Hyperbilirubinemia is a common manifestation of infectious disorders during the neonatal period. Urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the serious bacterial infections with hyperbilirubinemia among newborn infants. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to identify the early predictive risk factors of UTI in neonates with hyperbilirubinemia, to prevent its long-term complications...

متن کاملIncidence of Hyperbilirubinemia and Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) in Asymptomatic Term Neonates Under Two Weeks of Age
Background: Hyperbilirubinemia is a common cause of referral to neonatal care units. According to several studies, jaundice is among the primary symptoms of urinary tract infection (UTI) in neonates. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of UTI in asymptomatic term neonates diagnosed with indirect hyperbilirubinemia within the first two weeks of birth. Methods: This prospective study wa...
متن کاملUrinary Tract Infection in Neonates
The symptoms and signs of urinary tract infection (UTI) in the newborn are non-specific. We carried out a retrospective investigation of 30 neonates in whom urinary tract infections were diagnosed by urinary culture. In our study, UTI was a little more common in boys (56%). Eight babies (27%) had low birth weights (less then 2,500 gm). In addition to fever, gastrointestinal tract symptoms and j...
متن کاملUrinary tract infection and neonatal hyperbilirubinemia.
I have read with great interest the article by Bilgen et al., which appeared in the last issue [2006; 48 (1)] of the journal. The relationship (reason or result) between neonatal, especially prolonged hyperbilirubinemia and urinary tract infection is highly questionable, and investigation and debate on the topic are ongoing1,2. However, there are some methodological and propositional question m...
