Prediction of Shipping Noise in Range-Dependent Environments

A prediction model for shipping noise in range-dependent environments based on coupled-mode theory is presented, as an enhancement to existing adiabatic normal-mode approaches without a significant increase computational effort. Emphasis placed the categorization of environmental changes and precalculation storage eigenvalues, eigenfunctions coupling matrices, such that they can be looked up restored efficiently compute acoustic field arbitrary source distributions over given sea area. Taking into account water depth primary factor determining number propagating modes particular frequency, applied only case changing bathymetry, whereas sound-speed profile and/or geoacoustic characteristics are treated adiabatically. Examples calculations benchmark setups Eastern Mediterranean Sea comparisons with fully predictions drawn. Moreover, effect applying range propagation limitations numerical demonstrated.
