Prediction of initiation and total life in fretting fatigue considering kinked cracks

نویسندگان

چکیده

This work proposes a methodology to compute fretting fatigue crack initiation and total life by iterative models calibrated with stress–strain-life curves. One of the main novelty such is assumption that length determined size critical distance. To separate propagation lives, numerical approach finite elements used. The incorporates not only multiaxial non-proportional characteristic stress field in problems, but also gradient effect. Crack path obtained means SWT parameter, validate it, analysed results are compared tests considering cylindrical-flat configuration (Aluminium 7075-T651 alloy). Most estimates, as well ones, within scatter band 3.

Fatigue crack initiation life prediction of railroad wheels

A new multiaxial high-cycle fatigue initiation life prediction model for railroad wheels is proposed in this paper. A general fatigue damage analysis methodology for complex mechanical components is developed and applied to the wheel/rail rolling contact fatigue problem. A 3-D elasto-plastic finite element model is used for stress analysis. A submodeling technique is used to achieve both comput...

Side Effects of Shot Peening on Fatigue Crack Initiation Life

Shot peening beneficial effects on fatigue life of mechanical components are well known. However, there are some reports in the literature that indicate inappropriate shot peening parameters tend to reduce the fatigue life. It is therefore, the purpose of this study to find a logical quantitative justification for these observations. Using finite element method, a dynamic elastic-plastic simula...

Fracture and fatigue analysis of curved or kinked cracks near fastener holes

The finite element alternating method is an attractive and efficient method for calculating the stress intensity factor of cracks emanating from fastener holes such as the problem of multiple site damage (MSD) at the fuselage skin of aging aircraft. While the alternating method has been used to solve various engineering problems in assessing the structural integrity of aging aircraft, this meth...

Fatigue Life Prediction of Rivet Joints

Strength reduction in structures like an aircraft could be resulted as cyclic loads over a period of time and is an important factor for structural life prediction. Service loads are emphasized at the regions of stress concentration, mostly at the connection of components. The initial flaw prompting the service life was expected by using the Equivalent Initial Flaw Size (EIFS) which has been re...

Fretting Fatigue Life Estimations Based on Critical Distance Theory

Fretting fatigue process have many features such as early stage crack initiation at contact edge, very slow crack propagation and fatigue failure after very long life operation. In this paper at first we present fretting fatigue model in high cycle region, which is considering the wear process near contact edge. And then we present fretting fatigue life estimation method in low cycle fatigue re...
