Practices Regarding Safe Urinary Catheterization among Healthcare Workers

Objective: To assess the knowledge and practices regarding safe urinary catheterization among health care workers Study Design: It was a Cross sectional observational study. Methodology: Ninety two were interviewed in hospitals from April 2022 to July 2022. A questionnaire designed about individual departmental of catheterization, including practice hand hygiene, wearing gloves, maintaining sterile barrier using non-touch gentle insertion technique post catheter care. Results: Fifty respondents doctors, while 42 paramedics. Hand washing gloves reported by 67.3% 91.2% respectively. 71.7% cleaned area with antiseptic but only 56.5% practiced appropriate method. had separate tray. 68.5% inserted without touching its tip. Other safety measures arrangement prefilled syringe for inflation balloon (89.1%), clear visualization urethral meatus (90%), (84.7%), confirmation urine flow (86.9%), holding place (82.6%) variably practiced. 61.9% mistakenly passed into vagina instead urethra at some occasion life. 83.6% thought it necessary hang bag on bed side care, more than 84% frequently found bags floor their wards. Conclusion: Safe need be improved. Units must develop set protocols reduce incidence associated morbidity. This can achieved continuous training audit within department.
