Practical judgment as reflective judgment: On moral salience and Kantian particularist universalism

Moral particularists and generalists alike have struggled over how to incorporate the role of moral salience in ethical reasoning. In this paper, I point neglected resources Kant account for maxim formation: Kant's theory reflective judgment. tasks judgment with picking out salient empirical particulars formation into maxims, associating it purposiveness, or intentional activity (action on ends). The unexpected Kantian suggest possibility a particularist universalism, where recalcitrant directly inform, some cases revise, principles. Such an improves accounts perception: rather than deriving sensitivity solely from agent's upbringing cultural resources, dimension is situated alongside universalist principles typically identified ethics, allowing critical approach both universals reception particulars.
