چکیده
A typical self-mode-locked vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser must operate at the edge of stable region resonant cavity. Its minimal pump spot on gain chip is used as a soft aperture. By comparing with continuous-wave (CW) laser, pulsed focused more tightly due to Kerr-lens effect. This mitigates cavity loss in comparison CW such that successive mode-locking can be initiated. The disadvantage above method relatively small spot, producing large thermal effect, limits output power laser. To address this issue, we propose another work point moved slightly from and moderately extended, could smaller or larger than We achieve self-mode-locking record average 8.18 W V-type resonator, limited by applied power. pulse repetition rate width are 0.71 GHz 1.92 ps, respectively, corresponding peak 5.6 kW.

Femtosecond synchronously mode-locked vertical-external cavity surface-emitting laser.
The behavior of a room temperature synchronously mode-locked vertical-external cavity surface-emitting laser (VECSEL) operating at 980 nm is reported. The laser performance was found to be qualitatively the same for different pump pulse duration (3.6 ps and 70 fs). The pulse duration of the laser is limited by strong self-phase modulation to around 10-40 ps. By compressing the strongly chirped ...
متن کاملSelf-mode-locked quantum-dot vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser.
We present the first self-mode-locked optically pumped quantum-dot semiconductor disk laser. Our mode-locked device emits sub-picosecond pulses at a wavelength of 1040 nm and features a record peak power of 460 W at a repetition rate of 1.5 GHz. In this work, we also investigate the temperature dependence of the pulse duration as well as the time-bandwidth product for stable mode locking.

We realize a femtosecond high-power spontaneous mode-locked operation with gigahertz oscillation in a vertical-external cavity surface-emitting laser under the condition of eliminating the internal and external unwanted reflection. We find that the reflectivity of the output coupler has a significant influence not only on the output power but also on the output pulse duration. With an incident ...
متن کاملAnalysis of Laser Pulse Chirping in Mode-Locked Vertical-Cavity Surface-Emitting Lasers
Mode-locked vertical-cavity lasers have a large cross-sectional area and consequently a large saturation energy and large peak powers. We analyze excess optical bandwidth generation in these lasers and find that self-phase modulation due to optical pumping and gain saturation is the dominant factor in inducing laser pulse chirping. The large magnitude of the chirp makes intracavity prism-pair c...
متن کاملMultichip vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting lasers: a coherent power scaling scheme.
We propose an efficient coherent power scaling scheme, the multichip vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser (VECSEL), in which the waste heat generated in the active region is distributed on multi-VECSEL chips such that the pump level at the thermal rollover is significantly increased. The advantages of this laser are discussed, and the development and demonstration of a two-chip VECSE...
