Potentially inappropriate medications use and its associated factors among geriatric patients: a cross-sectional study based on 2019 Beers Criteria

The aims of this study were to estimate the prevalence potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs) in a community-dwelling Jordanian population geriatrics according 2019 American Geriatrics Society Beers Criteria, identify most used PIMs and factors independently associated with use. This was an observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study. sample included 386 participants. Data collected by face-to-face interviews. A total 2894 evaluated. patients using at least one PIM 49.2%. proton pump inhibitors (24.6%) long-acting sulfonylurea (20.5%). Participants who had diabetes mellitus, peptic ulcer, or irritable bowel syndrome significantly higher numbers PIMs. use high geriatric patients. results might help healthcare providers detect high-risk reconsider necessity decrease risk adverse drug events.
