Post-traumatic stress disorder among flood survivors of Kodagu subdistrict in Karnataka: a cross sectional study

Background: Mental health being a major concern gradually rising from the shadows, post-traumatic stress disorder is triggering as public issue followed by any disaster. Hence, we aimed to determine prevalence of and its associated factors among flood survivors.Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted survivors who resided on banks river Kaveri Harangi in Somwarpet Taluk Kodagu district, Karnataka, India. A semi structured questionnaire administered interview method capture data 331 participants were sheltered at relief camps during year 2019. Association sociodemographic variables with PTSD analyzed using Chi-square test Logistic regression.Results: The mean (SD) age 42.94 (±14.10) years 141 (42.6%) males. high severity symptoms 28.4%. Poor social support perceived 87.3% participants. Age, Loss official documents, owning agricultural land distance house significantly PTSD.Conclusions: after disaster 28% population majority poor support. Post flood, employment programs mindfulness are needs hour.
