چکیده

The eye is particularly vulnerable to oxidative stress due its constant exposure atmospheric oxygen, sunlight, ultraviolet and ionizing radiation, chemicals, pollutants, microorganisms that may shift the physiological balance towards oxidation. Today, considered a major pathogenetic feature of wide spectrum ocular conditions including diseases lens (cataract), anterior chamber (glaucoma), cornea (keratoconus, traumatic injuries, post-operative conditions), surface (pterygium, dry syndrome), retina (uveitis, retinopathies), optic nerve (optic neuropathies, glaucoma). Potential strategies for therapy in conditions, associated with stress, include direct inhibition lipid peroxidation, induction Nrf2 transcription factor signaling, repression sequestration vascular endothelial growth (VEGF), use agents antioxidant effect. Methylethylpyridinol or 3-oxy-6-methyl-2-ethylpyridine hydrochloride, potent free radical scavenger, often regarded as agent ophthalmological purposes. characterized by possibility being used different types dosage forms. In ophthalmology, it given injection, well instillation form drops. can be treatment prevention inflammation burn injuries cornea, hemorrhages into sclera, thrombosis central retinal vein branches, diabetic retinopathy complications myopia, protection when exposed high intensity light wearing contact lenses. This paper reviews main features leading diseases, possibilities using methylethylpyridinol.

Gene therapy: prospects for glycolipid storage diseases.

Lysosomal storage diseases comprise a group of about 40 disorders, which in most cases are due to the deficiency of a lysosomal enzyme. Since lysosomal enzymes are involved in the degradation of various compounds, the diseases can be further subdivided according to which pathway is affected. Thus, enzyme deficiencies in the degradation pathway of glycosaminoglycans cause mucopolysaccharidosis, ...

Gene therapy for PRPH2-associated ocular disease: challenges and prospects.

The peripherin-2 (PRPH2) gene encodes a photoreceptor-specific tetraspanin protein called peripherin-2/retinal degeneration slow (RDS), which is critical for the formation and maintenance of rod and cone outer segments. Over 90 different disease-causing mutations in PRPH2 have been identified, which cause a variety of forms of retinitis pigmentosa and macular degeneration. Given the disease bur...

Inherited diseases of photoreceptors and prospects for gene therapy.

The photoreceptor cells of the retina are subject to a wide range of genetic diseases. This review summarizes current knowledge regarding an important group of retinal diseases caused by mutations in photoreceptor-enriched genes. In addition, progress toward treatment of a variety of these diseases in animal models via adeno-associated virus gene therapy is described. Although no human trials h...

prospects for antifibrotic therapy

antifibrotic therapies should preferentially be targeted to the activated hepatic mesenchymal cells. those cells resemble wound healing myofibroblasts and synthesize an excess of extracellular matrix (ecm) proteins. they derive from quiescent hepatic stellate cells (hsc) and portal/perivascular (myo-) fibroblasts (mf). whereas various agents have been shown to inhibit hsc/mf proliferation and c...
