Possessive pronouns in Russian-German language contact: variation or change?

Abstract The article addresses the question of what happens to internal linguistic variability in a language contact situation by looking at how first-generation Russian immigrants Germany use two variants possessive pronouns (reflexive and non-reflexive) for referencing subject. To extent does frequency variants, as well constraints on their use, remain same monolingual variety, or change converge with structures majority language? A forced choice sentence completion task was conducted 96 adult bilingual Russian-German speakers measure both effect animacy referentiality possessum. results reveal an increased non-reflexive variant Russian, indicating convergence German. At time, observe monolinguals. constraints, however, is smaller than influence individual speaker-related variables.
