Positive correlation between wet-day frequency and intensity linked to universal precipitation drivers

چکیده
Abstract Understanding precipitation is essential for quantifying weather and climate-related risks. Changes in climatology are typically based on independent analysis of frequency intensity. Here we show that where it rains more often, also harder. When grouping global reanalysis data observations from the past 40 years into regions similar wet-day frequency, regardless geographical separation, there a strong correlation with intensity distributions. These wet-day-frequency physically coherent than location. We find relationship between distributions partially explained by having vertical velocity convective available potential energy distributions, once polar excluded. represent dynamic thermodynamic processes indicate how conducive to large-scale precipitation. This suggests main drivers universal. extreme-precipitation metrics dependent within our framework. Our results imply could be used derive estimates climate indices corresponding uncertainties, these uncertainties being related local processes.

Identification and synoptic analysis of the highest precipitation linked to ARs in Iran
Atmospheric rivers (ARs) are long-narrow, concentrated structures of water vapour flux associated with extreme rainfall and floods. Accordingly, the arid and semi-arid regions are more vulnerable to this phenomenon. Therefore, this study identifies and introduces the highest precipitation occurred during the presence of ARs from November to April (2007-2018). The study also attempted to...
متن کاملIntensity and frequency: dimensions underlying positive and negative affect.
Research on emotions and several happiness scales suggest that positive and negative affect are strongly inversely correlated. However, work on subjective well-being indicates that over time, positive and negative affect are independent across persons. In order to reconcile this inconsistency, two dimensions are proposed for personal affective structure: the frequency of positive versus negativ...
