Porous silica nanosheets in PIM-1 membranes for CO2 separation

نویسندگان

چکیده

PIM-1-based freestanding mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) and thin film nanocomposites (TFNs) were prepared by incorporating porous silica nanosheets (SN) exfoliated SN (E-SN) derived from natural vermiculite (Verm) in the PIM-1 polymer matrix. In addition, functionalized sulfonic acid amine groups (S-SN N-SN, respectively) also used as fillers for preparation of MMMs. The gas separation performance was evaluated using CO2/CH4 CO2/N2 (1:1, v:v) binary mixtures. Among membranes, fresh ones (i.e. tested right after preparation) containing 0.05 wt% E-SN outperformed neat PIM-1, surpassing 2008 Robeson upper bound. At same filler concentration, MMMs with acid-functionalized (S-SN) exhibited 40% higher CO2 permeability, 20% selectivity almost membranes. Moreover, 150 days aging, these capable maintaining up to 68% their initial permeability (compared 37% PIM-1). When TFN incorporation S-SN led 35% permeance five times 28 days.

Synthesis of PIL membranes for CO2 separation

Carbon dioxide (CO2) can be commonly found in natural gas streams, biogas, flue gas and product of coal gasification[1]. The presence of CO2 and other acid gases reduce the thermal efficiency and make the gas streams become acidic and corrosive, which in turn reduces the possibilities of gas compression and the transport within the transportation systems[2]. Membrane separation is a promising t...

AlPO-18 membranes for CO2/CH4 separation.

The synthesis of reproducible and continuous AlPO-18 membranes is demonstrated. The separation performance of these membranes for equimolar CO(2)/CH(4) gas mixtures is presented. The AlPO-18 membranes displayed CO(2) permeances as high as ~6.6 × 10(-8) mol m(-2) s Pa with CO(2)/CH(4) separation selectivities in the ~52-60 range at 295 K and 138 kPa.

Mixed Matrix Membranes of Boron Icosahedron and Polymers of Intrinsic Microporosity (PIM-1) for Gas Separation

This work reports on the preparation and gas transport performance of mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) based on the polymer of intrinsic microporosity (PIM-1) and potassium dodecahydrododecaborate (K₂B12H12) as inorganic particles (IPs). The effect of IP loading on the gas separation performance of these MMMs was investigated by varying the IP content (2.5, 5, 10 and 20 wt %) in a PIM-1 polymer ma...

Synthesis and Transport Properties of Novel MOF/PIM-1/MOF Sandwich Membranes for Gas Separation

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) were supported on polymer membrane substrates for the fabrication of composite polymer membranes based on unmodified and modified polymer of intrinsic microporosity (PIM-1). Layers of two different MOFs, zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) and Copper benzene tricarboxylate ((HKUST-1), were grown onto neat PIM-1, amide surface-modified PIM-1 and hexamethylene...
