Population Growth Changes in Major Stored Product Insects on Rice Fortified with Spearmint and Basil

چکیده
Rice is the most important durable food product for more than half of world’s population, as it very nutritious in terms carbohydrate containment and can meet a large part human caloric needs on daily basis. The sensitivity rice fortified with spearmint or basil was evaluated three stored insect species: Sitophilus oryzae (L.) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) Bostrychidae) Oryzaephilus surinamensis Silvanidae). Five different containments were used (0, 25, 50, 75 100% total quantity), population growth above species examined after 65 days. We found that fortification generally reduced infestation level tested their growth, compared control rice. In some treatments, there differences between application basil. There higher frass production had been spearmint, indicating patterns. For S. oryzae, gradual increase fortification, number insect-damaged kernels weight damaged reduced, significant recorded results present study are certainly encouraging further utilization characteristics control.

toxicity of acetone to stored-product insects
in laboratory experiments the toxicity of acetone was investigated against four species of stored-product insects. in empty-space trials, estimates of the lethal concentrations of acetone (lc, 72-h exposure) for 50% mortality against adults of the lesser grain borer, rhizopertha dominica (f.), red flour beetle, tribolium castaneum (herbst), rice weevil, si-tophilus oryzae (l.) and eggs of the a...
متن کاملMicrowave radar detection of stored-product insects.
A microwave radar system that senses motion was tested for capability to detect hidden insects of different sizes and activity levels in stored products. In initial studies, movements of individual adults or groups of Lasioderma serricorne (F.), Oryzaephilus surinamensis (L.), Attagenus unicolor (Brahm), and Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) were easily detected over distances up to 30 cm in air. Bo...
متن کاملBiorational approaches to managing stored-product insects.
Stored-product insects can cause postharvest losses, estimated from up to 9% in developed countries to 20% or more in developing countries. There is much interest in alternatives to conventional insecticides for controlling stored-product insects because of insecticide loss due to regulatory action and insect resistance, and because of increasing consumer demand for product that is free of inse...
متن کاملResistance of stored-product insects to phosphine
The objectives of this work were to assess phosphine resistance in insect populations (Tribolium castaneum, Rhyzopertha dominica, Sitophilus zeamais and Oryzaephilus surinamensis) from different regions of Brazil and to verify if the prevailing mechanism of phosphine resistance in these populations involves reduced respiration rates. Sixteen populations of T. castaneum, 15 of R. dominica, 27 of...
متن کاملStored-product insects in a flour mill: population dynamics and response to fumigation treatments
In a wheat flour mill, seasonal trends in stored-product insect trap capture, relationships between trap captures inside and outside the mill, and between pheromone trap capture and product infestation, and the impact of fumigation on pest populations, were assessed. Mark-recapture was used to evaluate the potential for movement of insects outside the mill into the mill. For Plodia interpunctel...
