Processing of macromolecular heparin by heparanase.
Heparanase is an endo-glucuronidase expressed in a variety of tissues and cells that selectively cleaves extracellular and cell-surface heparan sulfate. Here we propose that this enzyme is involved also in the processing of serglycin heparin proteoglycan in mouse mast cells. In this process, newly synthesized heparin chains (60-100 kDa) are degraded to fragments (10-20 kDa) similar in size to c...

متن کاملBlending conjugated polymers without phase separation for fluorescent colour tuning of polymeric materials through FRET.
The fluorescence properties of conjugated polymer blends were investigated using a combination of excitation energy donor and acceptor conjugated polymers encapsulated by identical cyclic sidechains. Wearing this 'uniform', the polymers did not phase-separate in the blends. As such, these polymers provide an effective ensemble for designing fluorescent polymeric materials.
متن کاملFluorescent Proteins as Genetically Encoded FRET Biosensors in Life Sciences
Fluorescence- or Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) is a measurable physical energy transfer phenomenon between appropriate chromophores, when they are in sufficient proximity, usually within 10 nm. This feature has made them incredibly useful tools for many biomedical studies on molecular interactions. Furthermore, this principle is increasingly exploited for the design of biosensors, wh...
متن کاملOne-step fluorescent probe product-enhanced reverse transcriptase assay.
Recently developed PCR-based reverse transcriptase (RT) assays are useful in the detection of retroviruses since they are approximately a millionfold more sensitive than conventional RT assays. However, these assays are both labor- and time-intensive. The previously described product-enhanced reverse transcriptase (PERT) assay involves a two-step RT-PCR followed by detection and quantitation of...
