Polarization Switching and Correlated Phase Transitions in Fluorite‐Structure ZrO2 Nanocrystals (Adv. Mater. 28/2023)

چکیده
Polarization Order Polarization-switching processes of fluorite-oxide thin films remain elusive due to the challenges visualizing oxygen ions. In article number 2207736, Chen Ge, Qinghua Zhang, Lin Gu, and co-workers directly capture transition between ferroelectric antiferroelectric orders using integrated differential phase-contrast scanning transmission electron microscopy.

Metamaterials: Snapping Mechanical Metamaterials under Tension (Adv. Mater. 39/2015).
By exploiting snap-through instabilities, D. Pasini and co-workers design a damage-tolerant mechanical metamaterial that snaps sequentially under tension, thereby accommodating a very large deformation up to 150%. On page 5931, they describe how the nonlinear mechanical response of the metamaterial can be robustly programmed by tuning the architecture of its unit cell.
متن کاملRate-dependent phase transitions in Li2FeSiO4 cathode nanocrystals
Nanostructured lithium metal orthosilicate materials hold a lot of promise as next generation cathodes but their full potential realization is hampered by complex crystal and electrochemical behavior. In this work Li2FeSiO4 crystals are synthesized using organic-assisted precipitation method. By varying the annealing temperature different structures are obtained, namely the monoclinic phase at ...
متن کاملExotic quantum phases and phase transitions in correlated matter
We present a pedagogical overview of recent theoretical work on unconventional quantum phases and quantum phase transitions in condensed matter systems. Strong correlations between electrons can lead to a breakdown of two traditional paradigms of solid state physics: Landau’s theories of Fermi liquid and phase transitions. We discuss two resulting ‘‘exotic’’ states of matter: topological and cr...

متن کاملQuantum phase transitions of correlated electrons in two dimensions
We review the theories of a few quantum phase transitions in two-dimensional correlated electron systems and discuss their application to the cuprate high temperature superconductors. The coupled-ladder antiferromagnet displays a transition between the Néel state and a spin gap paramagnet with a sharp S = 1 exciton: we develop a careful argument which eventually establishes that this transition...
