THE FIELD-INDUCED PHASE TRANSITIONS IN FeBr2 CRYSTAL
The field-induced phase transitions in FeBr2-type crystal under hydrostatic pressure have been determined in terms of Landau's theory, with the paramagnetic phase described by a unitary or a non-unitary group. The sets of low-temperature symmetry groups implied by these two descriptions partly overlap.
متن کاملMagnetic field induced phase transitions in Gd5(Si1.95Ge2.05) single crystal and the anisotropic magnetocaloric effect
Magnetization measurements using a Gd5(Si1.95Ge2.05) single crystal with the magnetic field applied along three crystallographic directions, [001], [010] and [100], were carried out as a function of the applied field (0–56 kOe) at various temperatures (∼5–320 K). The magnetic field (H)–temperature (T) phase diagrams were constructed for theGd5(Si1.95Ge2.05) single crystal with field along the t...
متن کاملPhase transitions in BaTiO3 from first principles.
We develop a first-principles scheme to study ferroelectric phase transitions for perovskite compounds. We obtain an effective Hamiltonian which is fully specified by first-principles ultra-soft pseudopotential calculations. This approach is applied to BaTiO3, and the resulting Hamiltonian is studied using Monte Carlo simulations. The calculated phase sequence, transition temperatures, latent h...
متن کامل2 Phase Transitions in Quantum Field Theory
In this lecture at a school for condensed matter physicist, I begin with basic concepts and tools for investigating phase transitions in quantum field theory. The very different roles of global and gauge symmetries in phase transitions will be elucidated. Among the important applications of the basic theory the thermodynamics of the electroweak transition is treated in detail, and the implicati...
متن کاملMagnetic Field Induced Phase Transitions in YBa2Cu4O8
The c-axis resistivity measurements in YBa2Cu4O8 from Hussey et al. for magnetic field orientations along the c-axis as well as within the ab-plane are analyzed and interpreted using the scaling theory for static and dynamic classical critical phenomena. We identify a superconductor to normal conductor transition for both field orientations as well as a normal conductor to insulator transition ...
