Polarization Modulation Instability in Dispersion-Engineered Photonic Crystal Fibers

Generation of widely spaced polarization modulation instability (PMI) sidebands in a wide collection photonic crystal fibers (PCF), including liquid-filled PCFs, is reported. The contribution chromatic dispersion and birefringence to the net linear phase mismatch PMI investigated all-normal PCFs with one (or two) zero wavelengths. Large frequency shift are demonstrated experimentally. Suitable fabrication parameters for air-filled proposed as guidelines development dual-wavelength light sources based on PMI.

Demonstration of ultra-flattened dispersion in photonic crystal fibers.

We demonstrate photonic crystal fibers with ultra-flattened, near zero dispersion. Two micro-structured fibers showing dispersion of 0 +/- 0.6 ps/nm.km from 1.24 microm-1.44 microm wavelength and 0 +/- 1.2 ps/nm.km over 1 microm-1.6 microm wavelength have been measured.
