چکیده

This study aims to understand the effect of electrical field on microstructure evolution during field-assisted sintering or spark plasma (FAST/SPS) 10 mol% gadolinium-doped ceria (GDC) with experimental and numerical methods. The novelty this has been observation enhanced grain growth in region closer anode, even under FAST/SPS conditions fields less than 5 V/cm. kinetics, including determination activation energy grain-boundary mobility, were analyzed along cross section samples for different temperatures dwell periods. With an increase distance from reduction mobility was observed. These observations attributed attraction oxygen ions anode defects boundaries. Thereby larger grains that A homogenous observed a case where current did not flow through sample. Furthermore, strategy also developed simulate behavior addition heat generation, transfer, densification using Finite Element Methods (FEM) simulations. simulation results provided insight into presence potential difference across samples. good agreement observations.

Sintering of viscous droplets under surface tension

We conduct experiments to investigate the sintering of high-viscosity liquid droplets. Free-standing cylinders of spherical glass beads are heated above their glass transition temperature, causing them to densify under surface tension. We determine the evolving volume of the bead pack at high spatial and temporal resolution. We use these data to test a range of existing models. We extend the mo...

Effects of the sintering conditions of dental zirconia ceramics on the grain size and translucency

PURPOSE This study aimed to identify the effects of the sintering conditions of dental zirconia on the grain size and translucency. MATERIALS AND METHODS Ten specimens of each of two commercial brands of zirconia (Lava and KaVo) were made and sintered under five different conditions. Microwave sintering (MS) and conventional sintering (CS) methods were used to fabricate zirconia specimens. Th...

Ultrafast-Contactless Flash Sintering using Plasma Electrodes

This paper presents a novel derivative of flash sintering, in which contactless flash sintering (CFS) is achieved using plasma electrodes. In this setup, electrical contact with the sample to be sintered is made by two arc plasma electrodes, one on either side, allowing current to pass through the sample. This opens up the possibility of continuous throughput flash sintering. Preheating, a usua...

Improvement of ionic conductivity of gadolinium doped ceria electrolyte with nano CuO sintering aid

Gadanium doped cerium oxide ceramic (GDC) is widely used as solid electrolytes in solid oxide fuel cells because of its high oxygen ion conductivity. In this study, the effect of addition of nano CuO as a sintering aid on the properties of GDC electrolyte were investigated. For this purpose, 0.2, 0.5, and 1% mole of nano Cuo was added to GDC ceramics, which was synthesized by the solid-state me...
