Polariton blockade in the Jaynes–Cummings–Hubbard model with trapped ions

Abstract We have experimentally observed the dynamics of a single polariton and two polaritons in two-ion chain. By driving trapped ions at motional blue-sideband (BSB) transition, we realize anti-Jaynes–Cummings–Hubbard (JCH) model. When exists trapped-ion chain, hops between ion sites. On other hand, when there are each site, hopping is suppressed because polariton–polariton interaction induced by nonlinearity anti-Jaynes–Cummings (JC) interaction, thereby realizing blockade anti-JCH model with ions. Our work step towards development based quantum simulator for strongly interacting polaritonic systems.

Its importance resides not only in the acceleration of the phenomena that may be achieved with these systems, from quantum gates to the generation of nonclassical states of the vibrational motion of the ion, but also in reducing unwanted effects such as the decay of coherences that may appear in such systems.
