Polarizing stored beams by interaction with polarized electrons.
A polarized, internal electron target gradually polarizes a proton beam in a storage ring. Here, we derive the spin-transfer cross section for e (p, p)e scattering. A recent measurement of the polarizing effect of a polarized atomic hydrogen target is explained when the effect of the atomic electrons is included. We also consider the interaction of a stored beam with a pure electron target whic...
متن کاملHadron Substructure Probed with Hadron Beams
In this talk, I focus on the quark-gluon structure of hadrons probed using high-energy hadron beams. I start with a brief review on recent major achievements in measuring parton distributions of the nucleon, pion, and kaon, with hadron facilities at CERN and FNAL. Then I discuss a number of outstanding questions and interesting physics issues in the field, and point out their intellectual impac...
متن کاملLongitudinally Polarized Colliding Beams
The feasibility of experiments with the polarized colliding beams expands significantly possibilities of getting information on fundamental interactions. Even the use of the transversely polarized beams enables getting the more reliable and clear definition of spins for the intermediate states and final particles,1p2 as well as to introduce the precise absolute energy scale.3-s But only the use...
متن کاملElliptically Symmetric Polarized Beams
We study the free-propagation features of an optical field endowed with a non-uniform polarization pattern with elliptical symmetry. The fields derived in this way are called Elliptically Symmetric Polarized Beams (ESPB for short). Some properties of these fields are analysed. Moreover, it is shown how it is possible to obtain such light beams by applying the results to Bessel-Gauss beams.
متن کاملHighly Polarized Electron Beams for Linear
Work supported by Department of Energy contract DE{AC03{76SF00515. The SLC operates with electron beams having a polarization of 80%. The physics opportunities for future colliders will be greatly enhanced if the beam polarization can be signicantly higher. The prospects for achieving electron single-beam polarizations 95% are discussed. A complimentary achievement w ould be to use two-beam pol...
