Polar jet stream fluctuations in an energy balance model

چکیده

Abstract We investigate the effect of increased longwave radiative forcing (a proxy for greenhouse gas concentration) on zonally averaged location eddy-driven jet stream in a latitude dependent, two-layer Energy Balance Model. The model includes separate terms atmospheric and surface albedos, takes into account reflections shortwave radiation between layers. introduce notion cloud factor function, which depends temperature gradients, to simulate jet. An increase initially results poleward movement stream’s mean latitude, but as increases, becomes quasi-periodic its moves equatorward.

An energy balance of high-speed abrasive water jet erosion

High-speed abrasive water jetting is an alternative tool for machining engineering materials. The energy dissipation processes involved in this erosion process have not been investigated systematically. In this paper, a model is developed to calculate the energy dissipation in workpieces eroded by abrasive water jets. By introducing an energy dissipation function ÷(Ö), the model enables the est...

Optimal Energy Extraction During Dynamic Jet Stream Soaring

Dynamic soaring, a technique in which horizontal wind that varies in strength or direction is used to support flight, could potentially support perpetual flight of a high performance glider in the jet stream. However, the aircraft's control systems would still require electric power. This could be extracted for example using specially designed ram air turbines (RAT). The present paper focuses o...

An Energy Balance Model of Green Roof Integrated Photovoltaics: a Detailed Energy Balance including Microclimatic Effects

Photovoltaic (PV) panels get hot in the sun. This decreases the operating efficiency through various means. Several approaches have been proven effective at cooling panels. Green Roofs are thermally cool, outperforming even white roofs over their life. On a hot summer day, a green roof can be 30◦C cooler than a typical roof, potentially improving the efficiency of a photovoltaic (PV) panel by a...
